Participation in the legislative procedure for the State and discharge of the constitutional responsibilities of the State Government are only two of the manifold tasks of the department of legislation.

• Constitutional matters
• Participation in the legislative procedure for the State, in particular the elaboration of draft bills of the State Government
• Discharge of the constitutional responsibilities of the State Government
• Conclusion of the constitutional agreements of the State Government
• Representation of the State Government in proceedings before the constitutional court, with the exception of those pursuant to article 144 B-VG
• Coordination in human rights matters
• Matters of international law
• Protection of the interests of the State in the conclusion of State treaties by the federal government, the passing of federal laws and the passing of ordinances by the federal authorities
• Protection of the legality and questions of legal technicalities in the passing of ordinances by State authorities
• General matters of administration procedure
• Provincial gazette and legal documentation
